Crockpot Mac and Cheese Recipe

Crockpot Mac and Cheese is a creamy, comforting dish that’s incredibly easy to make.

It’s perfect for busy days or when you want a hands-off approach to cooking. Here’s a simple and delicious recipe:

Ingredients (Serves 6-8)

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni (uncooked)
  • 4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (divided)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • 1 (12 oz) can evaporated milk
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk (or 2% milk)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or substitute with more milk)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional, for a smoky flavor)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crockpot:

  • Lightly grease the inside of your crockpot with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.

2. Combine Ingredients:

  • In the crockpot, add the uncooked macaroni, 3 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese (if using).
  • Pour in the evaporated milk, whole milk, heavy cream, and melted butter.
  • Add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika (if using). Stir everything together until well combined.

3. Cook:

  • Cover the crockpot and cook on low heat for 2-2.5 hours, stirring occasionally (every 30-45 minutes) to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking. The macaroni should be tender, and the sauce creamy.
  • Avoid cooking on high heat, as it can cause the dairy to separate or the macaroni to become mushy.

4. Add Topping:

  • Once the mac and cheese is cooked, sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top. Cover and let it sit for 10-15 minutes to melt the cheese.

5. Serve:

  • Give the mac and cheese a final stir to combine the melted cheese on top. Serve warm and enjoy!

Tips for Success:

  • Use block cheese and shred it yourself for the best melting texture (pre-shredded cheese often contains anti-caking agents that can make the sauce grainy).
  • If the mac and cheese seems too thick, stir in a splash of milk to reach your desired consistency.
  • For a crispy topping, transfer the mac and cheese to a baking dish, sprinkle with breadcrumbs or extra cheese, and broil for 2-3 minutes.

Enjoy your creamy, cheesy Crockpot Mac and Cheese! 🧀
